For the first time, the Tower's Social Group organised a

Grand Summer Garden Party

In June 2011, the Tower Social Group excelled itself once again with a magnificent Grand Garden Party, the start of which coincided almost to the minute with the onset of the most blazing afternoon of hot sunshine that we had seen so far this year. Guests were welcomed with a glass of buck's fizz or orange juice and then offered a seat at one of a number of tables with beautifully colourful parasols. The garden, whose entrance announced itself to visitors with an eye-catching bunch of balloons, was generously lent by Anna Fiorentini for the afternoon. It was delightfully decorated with garlands of brightly-hued flowers and magnificent row of tall candlesticks to throw some light on the latter stages of this glorious occasion. The crowning glory was the service of a feast of a tea, with cucumber sandwiches, egg sandwiches, fairy cakes and the biggest, creamiest, jammiest scones that you could imagine. Tower members and their children, spanning the generations, all enjoyed a very happy afternoon which went on well past its advertised finishing time into the late evening. It's expected that this will become a regular fixture in the Tower Social calendar!
